Hawrea AmeriCarama

We had left Wellington and were on route to Egmont National Park when we decided to stop at Hawrea for a toilet break where we stumbled across AmeriCarama. This is one of the best things about having your own transport and not having definitive plan, you get to see wee cool things like this.

We were unsure at first what was happening but noticed a lot of American flags and a few classic American Cadillac's. We then went a walk to find the toilets and found the main street that was closed off. The first thing we noticed was an old car sitting on the roundabout with a shoeless old man in dungarees and a pipe. A typical American hillbilly! When we turned the corner we seen the whole street was filled with classic American cars. We learned that this is an annual festival called AmeriCarama that is held in this region. It was cool to see so many great cars and we managed to take photos of a few of the classics.
